Lantau 1999 |
Lantau is nearly twice as large as Hong Kong Island, but not very populated and therefore it is the best kind to go by foot. Our first island excursion led us to the monastery of Po Lin, the largest Buddhism sanctuary in HK. |
A beautiful monastery with temples, gates and gardens, as well as the largest Buddha statue, made of bronze, of the world. |
Trough given up tea plantations we went down to the small fishing village Tai O, with its Sampans, fishing boats and lake dwellings. But the main attraction here is the ferry across the little river by handcraft. The price for this trip is 30 cents and takes only half a minute, a nearly unreal experience in our hectic time.. |
Everything on the island seems calmly and foreign, so you can think, that the time never goes by. It is a wonderful place to escape the restless HK. |
