This time we flew with Emirates to Bangkok, because we planed a
2-day stop over in Dubai on our way back. Another reason was the
jetlag, instead of 12 hours flight time from Bangkok to Munich, it
is 2 x 6 hours.It
was very pleasant and we will probably do it again.
We were really curious of Dubai. We
received a very different world.Everything
here is gigantism, bigger, better, nicer, more luxurious ... ....is
here the motto! ! We stayed at the creek and so we were
able to see a little bit of the "normal" life. Great old wooden
boats were loaded with everything of goods.

At first we took a one-hour Boat trip on the creek and so we got a
little overview.The
skyline is already amazing and impressive. But
we liked much more the small ferry boats full of local people which
took them to the other side of the creek. Very
close to our hotel was also the Spice- and the Gold Souk and we
could went there by foot.We
had actually thought that these souks are old, like these in
Istanbul, but this was wrong, its all new.
We had already ordered our tickets by Internet for the Burj Khalifa,
the largest skyscraper in the world. We were really excited and
already a little tense, because we didn’t know what will be up
there.We
were a little bit afraid, but it was so impressive! After the doors
of the elevator were closed, there was a kind of light and sound
show about the construction of the building. Beside the altitudecompensationwe didn’t realize the very fast lift up,
except that it was so great. It
took about only 1 minute up to 423 meter! Up on the observation
deck then wow !!!!! High glass windows with photo slots at different
heights.Unfortunately,
it was a bit hazy and cloudy, so the view was not so great, but the
look down was spectacular as well, the buildings, streets, cars were
very small and looks like toys.
For our sightseeing tour we took a taxi so we were much more
independent than with the hop on hop of bus and it was not much more
expensive.We
stopped at all typical highlights.The
nicest place for us was the Burj al Arab, the first landmark of
Dubai in contrast to the new Atlantis Hotel. This
giant monster Hotel at the end of the Palm was really awful for us.
The main reason to visit the Atlantis Hotel for us was the gigantic
aquarium, and that was really great and impressive as we had
imagined.Outside
again, pure artificial world.We
could see the construction works on the Palm and the immense
Atlantis Water park during our trip by the sky train, but we didn’t
like it all.
Our hotel in Dubai was the Radisson Hotel at the Deira Creek and we
were very satisfied. Good price, good service, good restaurants ,
luxury rooms and a good location.
A visit to the Dancing Fountains at the ground of the Burj
Khalifa is a must and an absolute highlight. It
is a very impressive, beautiful and spectacular showto
various music compositions (Thriller, Arabic, Time to say goodby….) the water
fountains are so directed that they are moving really like the rhythm of the
music.
But unfortunately after the third song it began to rain (Dubai has 360 sunny
days a year and we had just caught the others!) so that we went quickly into the
near gigantic shopping mall.
