Mykonos |
||
Party Island |
||
We had spend 11 great and wonderful holidays with some interruptions, on Mykonos since 1998. The informal, free and tolerant kind of life fascinated us as well as the white Cycladic architecture, the windmills, the radiant light of the Aegean sea and the clean, crystal clear water with many beautiful beaches. Mykonos town with its smart restaurants, bars and cafes, as well as the nightlife in the streets inspired us again and again. After 7 years of abstinence, we came back for a few days and found that there has nothing changed on Mykonos, and yet a lot.

The narrow alleys are still beautiful to stroll around but the shops and restaurants have changed and adapted to the very rich people. The last few years there was built a lot of things, the marina and the new ferry and cruise port in the north of Mykonos Town are now ready and ready to welcome the masses of tourists.
With our rental scooter we drove across the island again and although it is barren landscape it was totally fun to be in the nature. I n the evening, the city will tempt you again with its great atmosphere and the lively nightlife. .
We also looked forward to the beautiful beaches but here Mykonos has changed the most. No normal beachlife but almost everywhere beach clubs that are well visited by the wealthy, young and hip people. Party everywhere and all day.
All in all, our stay in Mykonos was intended as a sentimental journey, but we realized that it is no longer our great island, it now belongs to the young, wild and rich people. Maybe we should not have come in the high season June / July, because there it is totally full and crowdy. But every time has its time, but our time in Mykonos is over.
