  Vang Vieng

from Luang Prabang to Vientiane

Vang Vieng was our stop over on the way from Luang Prabang to Vientiane and is located about 250 km south of Luang Prabang. For this way we went by a private car and it was almost a 7 hours ride, because there are nearly endless high mountains (up to 2,000 meters) to climb. Serpentine roads without end, but with spectacular views down to the valleys. We liked the trip very well, even if it was a bit exhausting.

Vang Vieng is a big backpacker's paradise with all its advantages and disadvantages, here is the meeting point of all Travellers of Laos.

It is beautifully nestled between rolling hills and unique rock formations on the Nam River Xong. For most of the Travellers is “Tubing” the main attraction here, but for us was it the great landscape along the river.

On the next day on our way to Vientiane, we visited the interesting caves near Vang Vieng.

The 4-hour ride to Vientiane was scenically very beautiful again. Rivers, rice fields, small villages made the trip varied and interesting. It was not so hilly and curvy like the previous day.
