Bangkok Thailand Travelogues HOME Generally
The capital of Thailand with nearly 10 million inhabitants is an area of conflict between the traditional Asiatic and the western society. Poverty and wealth, hectic and silence, gloss and misery, everything you can see here. In the streets there are a horrible traffic of thousands of mopeds, pulsates cars and Tuk Tuks. In the afternoon the sidewalks change to markets and kitchens and offer all possible exotic food and goods for sale. The poor, rural city life at Bangkok you can find at the banks of the Chao Phraya river and the Klongs of Thonburi.Besides there is the other Bangkok, which its religious and cultural centres, the Grand Palace, Wat Po and further nearly 400 temples. They all are wonderful places of meditation and silence. Bangkok is also a commercial centre, too, with big skyscrapers and shopping malls. The modern way of life displaces gradually the traditional life more and more. During our visits we could watch the changing of Bangkok. The city develops more and more to a modern Asiatic city and became very similar to other Asiatic metropolis. In the meantime there was built an elevated railway, too. We are happy to know the city before the great "progress" starts and hope that the fascination of Bangkok remains us still for a long time. Bangkok stays:
