Ayutthaya 2001
During our Stopover in April 2001 in Bangkok we visited also the ancient royal city, Ayutthaya. We had booked the combined bus/boat trip by the Oriental Queen already from at home.
It was a wonderful trip to the weathered temples and the ruins of the old city. The flowering trees and green areas impressing us very much and offered us also great motives for photos.
The old summer palace, built with many European style elements and the big Chinese pavilion with precious woodcarvings are today only used for representation. You can visit the beautiful place, only clothed with covered shoulders and knees. For this purpose you can borrow, free of charge, shirts and sarongs at the entrance.
But the absolute highlight was the return trip by the Oriental Queen to Bangkok in 3 ½ hours with high speed. After the Lunch Buffet we went immediately at deck and enjoyed the charming river landscape with the small villages and dwellings at the banks.
From the ship we had a marvellous view to the Wat Aurun, the Grand Palace and the skyline of Bangkok.
