Angkor Thom
and Tha Prom
Angkor Thom, the last important capital of the Khmer epoch you can reach on a very straight street with enormous trees. The city wall is nearly 5 miles long and surrounded with a broad water canal. Over great bridges, each flanked with fifty-four stone-sculptures, you can go into the city. Since 1992 the whole temples belong to the UNESCO world cultural heritage and everywhere they have been restored. At the buildings there are wonderful richly decorated ornaments, relieves and sculptures an unbelievable, great work of the sculpture art. Sculpture Art at the best way you can find also in the “face temple” of Bayon. The 54 towers each with 4 enormous faces built from dark stone fascinate each visitor. We were completely impressed from the many-sidedness of the buildings.
Another Highlight here is the temple arrear THA PROM, which is well-known of the stranglehold of the jungle trees. We were completely inspired of the unique atmosphere of these temples. Big Banyan- and Kapok-trees grows on the terraces and walls. The enormous roots clasp and loop nearly everything. For us was the "root temple" very special attraction.
