Mandawa

Mandawa, was the first destination of our Rajasthan tour. We reached this town in more than 6 hours drive from Delhi, first on a good road, then on a graveled road. Our accommodation for the night was a beautiful haveli in the middle of the town.

Mandawa is really a contrast to Delhi. We felt like in a medieval film se, the dirt roads , the camels , the colorfully dressed women , the whole street life, everything was so strange and unique and it really touched all of our senses .

Mandawa is famous for the many beautifully decorated havelis (formerly trading houses). In our hotel we booked a little guided tour and so we also passed havelis, which we would see alone. The buildings are really works of art, with colorful painted facades, projecting balconies, alcoves and overhanging upper floors.

However, here it is very touristy, because Mandawa is called the gateway to Rajasthan, but this cannot detract from the beauty of the buildings. The town has really impressed us.
