The Philippines, an island state with over 7000 smaller and larger islands in the Pacific Ocean, were discovered by the Spain. In the “Second World war” the islands were the base of the US Army, and till today this has formed the way of life of the Philippinos. The multicoloured Jeepneys, assembled from old Army jeeps, are not only the heir of the Americans, but also everything which is a little bit American, enthusiastic the Philippinos. Coca Cola and Burgers are the big hits. The food is Spanish-American and has nothing to do with the spicy, flavoured and aromatic kitchen from the asian cooking style. Many Philippinos are excellent musicians and singers and their songs in "Tagalog", the national language, remind us of the sentimental music of the gypsies. The landscape of the islands are very different and individual and therefore most interesting. Volcanoes, rice terraces, paradise beaches, mountains, everything is represented.
